The American “Wall Street Journal” reported that the WHO team concerned with investigating the origin of the Coronavirus has retreated from its plan to publish a progress report that includes a summary of its research findings in China.

Today, Thursday, the newspaper quoted the expert in food security, Peter Ben Embark, who heads the WHO team that visited Wuhan, China last month, as confirming that the team abandoned the plan announced on February 12 by the Director-General of the Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, saying that the team In the coming weeks, he will issue a progress report that includes a summary of the results of his examinations in Wuhan, and then a final and full report will be published within weeks.

The newspaper indicated that the WHO team is currently planning to publish a summary of the results of the investigations with the final report, as Ben Embark indicated that publishing the progress report alone today will not be able to meet the intense international interest in the findings of the investigation.

A WHO spokeswoman confirmed to the newspaper that the full report will be published in the coming weeks and will include the team’s main findings.

The newspaper indicated that the World Health Organization would need approval from Chinese officials and experts to publish its report.

The Wall Street Journal pointed out that this decision comes against the background of increasing tensions between the United States and China and the signing of 26 scientists from different countries, an open letter today, Thursday, in which they demanded the World Health Organization to launch a new investigation, claiming that the current team during its visit to Wuhan did not have the required level of access. He was unable to conduct a detailed and objective investigation to study the various hypotheses for the emergence of Corona, including the hypothesis that it had leaked from a laboratory.

In the message, the scholars expressed their conviction that it is almost impossible for the current team to conduct a comprehensive investigation, and that any final report issued by it will include political consensual solutions because it needs the approval of the Chinese side, adding: “The efforts made so far do not represent a detailed, credible and transparent investigation.”
