Myanmar: A journalist broadcasts live police shooting during his arrest

37

A Myanmar journalist broadcast live the police shooting near his apartment while he was arrested in a crackdown on protesters against the military rule.

“Help! Help … They are shooting at me!”

The clip was filmed from a balcony on the first floor, with the police shining a light from the street below and asking him to go out.

He heard the sound of someone pulling the front door, apparently, and then a cloud of smoke descended on the balcony, accompanied by the sound of gunfire.

In a statement, the station confirmed the arrest of Kaung Myat Hling. It called for his release and the release of the other detained journalists.

An officer answering the phone at Miki Town Police Station said that news of the journalist’s arrest had not been confirmed and then hung up the phone.

Six journalists have been arrested during protests in the main city of Yangon in recent days.
