Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvares retained his world champion title in above-average weight for the World Association and the World Boxing Council, beating Turkey’s Avni Yildirim by technical knockout, Saturday.

And at the “Hard Rock” stadium in Miami, USA, Alvares, who won the united world middleweight title, since the first round, did not leave any luck for his opponent, who was playing his first match more than two years ago.

Alvares dropped Yildirim in the third round after a series of successive strikes.

But Al-Turki managed to rise and complete the fight, before his coach surprised the fans with his inability to continue in the competition and thus refused to go to the fourth round.

Alvares won 55 in his professional career, including 37 by knockout.

Alvarez was forced to play the match against Yildirim to keep his belts in the world league and council ranking. The Mexican boxer is now looking forward to achieving his goal of being the first to crown the unified title in the above-average weight category.

“I want to go into history,” said Alvares. “Nobody has done it before.”

His next match will be on the eighth of May against British World Organization champion Billy Joe Saunders, followed by American Caleb Blunt, champion of the International Boxing Association.
