Marc Jacobs Has Taken Up an Unexpected Hobby

41

Marc Jacobs is clearly enjoying life in the country. Back in April, the designer purchased a stunning Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home up in Rye, New York, and he has been living there with his husband Charly Defrancesco ever since. The change of scenery has been a pretty dramatic shift for the designer, who is a tried-and-true Manhattanite (prior to the move, he lived in the Mercer Hotel in SoHo). With a closer proximity to nature, Jacobs has taken up new outdoorsy hobbies, though that’s not to say he’s given up on his commitment to full-on fashion.

In recent weeks, the designer has been posting various outfit pics from his home’s grounds and not a pair of denim overalls or sensible rubber boots are in sight. This morning, Jacobs uploaded his latest upstate selfie, in which he is seen birdwatching. Sure, he’s got the binoculars and the hat (from milliner Stephen Jones, no less)—but apart from those two accessories, his look is less about searching for a rare Stresemann’s Bristlefront among the trees and more about serving up attention-grabbing personal style. Jacobs wears a custom Marc Jacobs ensemble for the photo op, even sporting a pair of stilettos (how he maneuvered his way up that mossy rock, is a feat in itself).

Now, considering that Jacobs has gone for Central Park strolls in Rick Owens’s mega platforms in the past, his latest maneuver is not all that new. What is noteworthy though, is his dedication to dressing up, even if the only ones around are woodpeckers and robins. (Just imagine you’re a bird perched up on a branch, just minding your own business, and up rolls Marc Jacobs in a full runway look!). Maybe the birds will start watching him.
