Russian cinema legend Vasily Lanovoy passes away with “Covid-19”

Death occulted the legend of Soviet and Russian cinema and the artist of the Soviet people, Vasily Lanovoy.

His wife, actress, Irina Kupchenko, said that her husband died on the evening of January 28 at the age of 87 in a Moscow hospital.

The director of the “Vakhtangov” Academic Theater in Moscow had previously told reporters that, Vasily Lanovoy had been transferred to the intensive care room. This was after he and his wife discovered the Corona virus, which infected 5% of his lungs.

It is noteworthy that Vasily Lanovoy participated in the filming of more than 100 Soviet and Russian films, the most important of which are “The Officers”, “Anna Karenina”, “Red Sails”, “Pavel Korchagin” and others.

As for the theater “Vakhtangov”, where he worked, Vasily Lanovoy for 60 years has performed more than 60 theatrical roles in it.

Vasily Lanovoy was distinguished throughout his life by his patriotic stance in cinematic and theater arts and everyday life. The Soviet and Russian governments awarded him a large number of honors and medals.

A distinctive statue of the characters of the movie “The Officers” was erected opposite the headquarters of the Russian Land Forces, among them the character of the first team, Ivan Warafa, who played Vasily Lanovoy.
