US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stressed during a telephone conversation with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein today, Thursday, the importance of continuing discussions within the framework of the strategic dialogue between the two governments.

Blinken indicated that the new administration is interested in the bilateral relations between the two countries, and that his ministry will build the pillars of dialogue on the basis of the continuity of the path reached in the previous rounds of “strategic dialogue” and construction.

“The Biden administration stands with the government and people of Iraq in fighting terrorism with force,” he said.

For his part, Hussein stressed the importance of starting dialogue sessions, and the need to reach clear understandings in relations between Baghdad and Washington, in the context of strengthening ties and for the benefit of the Iraqi and American peoples.

Hussein stated that the Iraqi government’s continuous efforts aim to divert tension from the Iraqi arena, pointing out that regional conflicts and international tensions between some countries in the region negatively affect the internal Iraqi situation.

He stressed that Iraq is looking forward to joint action with its American counterpart and foreign ministers of some governments in the countries of Iraq’s geographical neighborhood to reduce tensions and conflicts from the regional environment, and all of this requires new understandings and permanent communication.

For his part, the American minister indicated that the United States supports the Iraqi economy and strengthens partnership and economic interaction in various sectors, pointing to coordination between the two governments in relation to confronting the Corona virus.
