KSrelief launches Zakat Al-Fitr project in Yemen, Syria and Somalia

The Saudi aid agency KSrelief inaugurated a Zakat Al-Fitr project in Yemen to be distributed in Hodeidah, Taiz, Lahj, Aden, Marib, Hadramout, Al-Mahra, and Hajjah governorates.

The project is expected to deliver Zakat Al-Fitr to 219,331 individuals from 31,333 families in the governorates, and will provide food to the most vulnerable groups during Eid Al-Fitr.

This comes within the framework of relief and humanitarian projects implemented by Saudi Arabia through KSrelief to help the Yemeni people.

A KSrelief team oversaw initial preparations for the project, ensuring the quality and storage methods of rice and its transportation to distribution centers for the beneficiaries.

KSrelief also launched the Zakat Al-Fitr distribution project in Syria’s Aleppo and Idlib for those affected by an earthquake that struck southern and central Turkiye and northern and western Syria in February last year.

The project aims to distribute 62,250 bags of wheat flour, totaling 1,556 tons, to displaced families affected by the quake, benefiting 373,500 individuals.

The Zakat Al-Fitr distribution project has also been launched in Somalia, where 40,920 bags of rice weighing 818.5 tons will be distributed, benefiting 245,520 individuals and 40,920 families.

Since it was established by King Salman in 2015, KSrelief has implemented 2,673 projects worth more than $6.5 billion in 98 countries, in cooperation with 175 local, regional and international partners, including UN agencies.

The bulk of the support has gone to Yemen ($4.3 billion), Syria ($391 million), Palestine ($370 million) and Somalia ($227 million).

KSrelief’s programs cover a range of humanitarian aid needs, including food security, health, sanitation, shelter, nutrition, education, telecommunications and logistics.
