During a meeting in Riyadh on Monday, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Saudi energy minister, and Claire Coutinho, the UK’s secretary of state for energy security and net zero, discussed energy-sector cooperation between their countries.
The also explored the opportunities in the sector within the framework of a memorandum of cooperation signed by the two countries in October 2022. Key topics included the development of comprehensive standards for clean hydrogen, the need to address emissions at source, and regulations and policies for the capture, transportation and storage of carbon dioxide, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Prince Abdulaziz reiterated the commitment of the Kingdom to efforts to combat climate change through initiatives such as the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, and the Oil Sustainability Program.
He and Coutinho agreed there is the need to enhance cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, petrochemicals, power plants, and the localization of energy-sector activity.
