Kuwait’s foreign minister, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has reaffirmed his country’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and efforts to secure their rights.
His comments came during a meeting with Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner general of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, which took place on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 160th meeting of Arab League foreign ministers in Cairo, during which officials discussed ways to ensure the sustainability of UNRWA operations.
During his meeting with the Kuwaiti foreign minister, Lazzarini reviewed the humanitarian programs his agency provides to assist Palestinian refugees around the world. He also praised Kuwaiti authorities for their support of the Palestinian people and commended the nation for its contributions to aid efforts for refugees.
Sheikh Salem reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to the work of UNRWA, which he said plays an important role in delivering critical services to Palestinian refugees. In 2022, Kuwait provided $12 million to help fund the agency’s work, according to official figures.
