Saudi FM meets with counterparts in Cairo

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with his Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian counterparts in Cairo on Tuesday.

Prince Faisal separately met with Faisal Mekdad, Sameh Shoukry, and Ayman Safadi on the sidelines of a ministerial contact group meeting on Syria.

During the meetings with Shoukry and Safadi, bilateral relations and joint cooperation were discussed. The latest developments in Syria were also discussed with Mekdad.

Prince Faisal also discussed regional and international developments and efforts made with regard to them with his counterparts.

The talks were held on the sidelines of the Ministerial Contact Group on Syria, during which consultations and views were exchanged on efforts to reach a political solution to the conflict in the country.

The Kingdom’s delegation participating in the meeting included the Kingdom’s Undersecretary for Political Affairs, Dr. Saud Al-Sati, the permanent representative to the Arab League Abdulaziz Al-Matar, and the Director General of the Office of Prince Faisal Abdul Rahman Al-Daoud.

The ministers stressed the importance of resolving the humanitarian crisis, providing an appropriate environment for aid to reach all regions in Syria as well as creating necessary conditions for the return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons to their areas.

The meeting also discussed ways to end their suffering, ways of enabling them to return safely to their homeland and taking further measures that would contribute to stabilizing the situation in Syria.
