The governor of North Darfur, western Sudan, Nimr Abdel Rahman, announced the approval of United Nations humanitarian aid officials to organize trips from Chad to Darfur to transport aid to those affected by the fighting.
Nimr said in a statement today that the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, and the Sudanese government have agreed and expressed their readiness to deliver humanitarian aid through the airports of the State of Chad to the Darfur region, from Um Djeres Airport to North and South Darfur, and from Ibeche Airport to West and Central Darfur.
The first step is the fruits of the N’Djamena meetings between the components of the Darfur track, which discussed coordination of humanitarian work and benefiting from Chadian airports.
The Wali appreciated the Chadian position, hoping that the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and all organizations working in the field of relief would benefit from it to help those affected.
