Young Muhammad Tekin and his bride, Dilara Kahraman, held their wedding joy in the Alaşehir district of Manisa, western Turkey, amid strange feelings dominated by memories associated with the devastating earthquakes that struck the country.

Mehmet Tekin was living in the Antakya region of Hatay, one of the largest states that have been destroyed by earthquakes since last February 6, and he was stuck under the rubble for a full 36 hours, during which he saw death with his own eyes, but fate had another opinion.

After he got out of the rubble, he kept asking constantly about his fiancée, Dilara Kahraman, until he knew that she was also rescued, and decided to take her to his relatives who lived in Alaşehir, where the wedding took place.
The Savior is a witness to the wedding

One of the joyful things at the wedding was that the police officer, Amir Bastami Demirtash, who pulled the groom out from under the rubble, was invited, and they chose him as a witness to the marriage contract, in an atmosphere filled with grief and tears of those present. They were touched by the tears of the bride and groom and wedding witnesses.

Officer Demirtas recalled the memories of the situation, saying: “As soon as we heard about the accident, we voluntarily moved to Antakya on the first day. During our search, I heard the voices of two brothers. Later, we did our best to save the two brothers. When saving Mehmet, he asked about his fiancée, so he gave me her phone number, and I asked about her home.

He wished the newlyweds a happy life, that they would be stronger, and that together they would be able to recover and overcome the times they went through together.

Selin Okuzcuoglu, the wife of Alaşehir Mayor Ahmet Okuzkuoglu, also attended the wedding.

In solidarity with the newlyweds, the mayor stated: “The bride and groom from the earthquake zone came here, so that life can continue, and while we shed tears, we witness such happy moments.”

He added, “I know very well that Muhammad first asked about the neighborhood where his fiancée was when he was under the rubble. This is what God gave him. He brought them to this joy.”

As for the newlyweds, although they were affected by what happened to them, the joy of the ceremony and those present prompted them to say that they find it difficult to express what they feel, but they are very happy.

The earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, followed by thousands of aftershocks, killed 54,000 people and injured more than 100,000. As a result of the demolition of tens of thousands of buildings.
