UNESCO press attache Tom Malar stated that the organization will send its experts to assess the damage to the historic Gaziantep Citadel in Turkey and the Citadel of Aleppo in Syria as a result of the earthquake.

This came according to what Malar told the Russian agency “Novosti”, where the UNESCO spokesman continued that the organization and its partners such as the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) will carry out an accurate collection of damages in order to quickly protect and stabilize these sites.

The spokesman said that the organization is particularly interested in the situation of Aleppo after the earthquake, as the city was severely damaged.

The historic Gaziantep Citadel in Turkey and the Citadel of Aleppo in Syria, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, were damaged by the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on Monday morning.
