Strong arctic winds in the northeastern United States and eastern Canada led to record temperatures this weekend.
And the US Meteorological Service said that the temperature at the top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire (taking into account the wind chill) reached minus 78 degrees Celsius on Friday evening. This summit is famous for recording “the worst weather in the world”.

And the “Axios” website stated that -78 degrees Celsius is the lowest degree recorded in the United States, since the use of the current wind chill scale began, about two decades ago.

He stated that the extreme cold threatens the lives of millions, who live in New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

According to the “Weather Channel” website, the previous record for the temperature was minus 74 degrees Celsius.

It also recorded -39 degrees Celsius in Boston, earlier on Saturday morning, which is the coldest degree recorded there since at least 1944.
In Canada, the Environment Ministry issued severe cold warnings for much of Quebec and the eastern Maritime provinces, with temperatures in several areas reaching 40 degrees Celsius or even minus 50 degrees Celsius.

The arctic cold caused record electricity consumption in Quebec, which peaked on Friday afternoon. And the electric company, “Hydro Quebec,” called on its customers to reduce the degree of heating appliances by a degree or two and use less hot water.

According to the “Weather Channel”, it is expected that “temperatures will rise again today, Sunday.”
