An American deputy raises criticism: My salary is very small

55

An American deputy sparked a wave of criticism and ridicule in her country, before the matter attracted international media attention, after she said that her salary was “very small.”

And the story began, when Majority Taylor Green, a Republican representative from Georgia, a few days ago, told the widely circulated podcast of journalist, Glenn Greenwald, about her salary in the US Congress.

Green expressed her dissatisfaction with her salary in Congress, which public records show is $174,000, which is nearly half of what the US president earns annually ($400,000).

“Being a congressman made my life miserable,” she said.

She added that she was making a lot of money before her arrival in Congress, noting: “I have lost a lot of money since my arrival here (the US Parliament).”

And Taylor Green considered that she did not enjoy her life in Congress, knowing that she owned a gym “Jim” before she was elected to the US Congress for the state of Georgia since 2020, and she won a second term in the midterm elections in 2022.

It is not only money that the American parliamentarian complains about, as she says that working in Congress consumes most of her time.
“The nature of this job keeps members of the House and Senate in Washington for a long time, and we don’t get to go home and spend time with our families and friends,” said Majorie Taylor-Green.

As of Sunday afternoon, Maggiore Taylor Greene’s remarks were drawing criticism on the microblogging site “Twitter”.

And since this work is not financially feasible and time-consuming, tweeters called on the Republican representative to leave it and go home and not hesitate to do so.

Others compared the parliamentarian’s salary to the minimum wage in her home state of Georgia, which is $5.15 an hour, and one alleged that the deputy refused to vote in favor of raising the minimum wage.

Others stated that the minimum wage has not changed since 2009.

British newspapers such as The Guardian took care of this story, focusing on the criticism of the American parliamentarian because of this statement.
