Exposing the risk of cancer due to being overweight

Dr. Ivan Stiledy, Director of the Blokhin National Medical Research Center for Oncology, announced that excess weight and obesity are factors in the incidence of colorectal cancer.

The specialist added in an interview with Izvestia newspaper: “According to various scientific studies, obesity increases the risk of several types of malignant tumors, including colon, breast, uterine and pancreatic cancer. The degree of these risks ranges between 30 and 70 percent, according to the researchers.”
In explaining the mechanisms that lead to cancer due to excess adipose tissue, Stellidi notes that overweight and obese people have disturbed production of biologically active substances and cytokines, and an elevated level of interleukin-6 in the blood, tumor necrosis factor-alpha and other molecules. Scientists believe that the most important is a disruption of the insulin-like growth factor signaling pathway.

He says: “People who suffer from overweight and obesity suffer from a disorder in the composition of the gut microbiome, which scientists consider one of the main reasons for the development of colon cancer.”

He points out that it is difficult to influence the causes of overweight and obesity. Because combating it is the responsibility of the person himself.
