Sotheby’s said the jacket he wore on the historic Apollo 11 mission to the moon in 1969 fetched $2.8 million in New York.

On the front, the jacket bears the emblems of the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Apollo 11 mission, under the name Aldrin.

There’s also a US flag on the left shoulder of the jacket, made of a fire-resistant fabric that was made into NASA’s space jackets after three Apollo 1 astronauts died in a fire aboard their spacecraft during a ground test in 1967.

After the jacket, the summary of the Apollo 11 mission plan came as the second most expensive item sold at auction on Tuesday, as it sold for $819,000, exceeding expectations of $100,000 to $150,000, Reuters reported.

Neil Armstrong and Aldrin were the first humans to walk on the moon, and Aldrin, 92, is the only surviving member of the three-man mission’s crew.
