The Government of the United Arab Emirates, through the Famine Relief Fund, has made a financial contribution of US$6 million, to UNICEF’s humanitarian response to children in Ethiopia.
“Ethiopia is a country facing multiple emergencies, and as a result has caused a sharp increase in cases of malnutrition, and across the four drought-affected regions, an estimated 600,000 children will need treatment for malnutrition,” UNICEF Representative in Ethiopia Gianfranco Rutigliano wrote in an official statement. severe acute nutrition by the end of the year.
“UNICEF is extremely grateful to the government of the United Arab Emirates for this generous contribution, which comes at a critical time to address the malnutrition crisis facing the country,” added Rutigliano.
“This funding will enable us to purchase the much-needed, ready-to-use therapeutic food that will save the lives of countless children,” Gianfranco Rutigliano noted.
UNICEF is targeting an estimated 3.4 million people, including 1.4 million children, as part of its immediate response in Ethiopia.
