The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service announced today, Tuesday, that it has imposed a fine of 34.8 million dollars on the US company, “Google”, for abusing its dominant position in the market, through the arbitrary ban of accounts on the “YouTube” platform.
In February, Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service found Google guilty of violating antitrust laws by applying “opaque, biased and unpredictable” ban rules against YouTube users.
“As a result of an administrative investigation, the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service has imposed a sales fine of $3,4886.073.22 on Google for violating antitrust law,” a statement read.
The statement added that the American company must pay the fine within two months, after the document enters into legal force.
The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service launched an investigation into Google’s rules regarding the creation, suspension and ban of accounts and the handling of user content on YouTube in April 2021.
