The International Monetary Fund considered, today, Tuesday, that the United States has a weak chance of avoiding an economic recession due to the many risks it faces.
“It’s a very narrow path,” said Pierre-Olivier Gorenchas, chief economist at the International Monetary Fund.
He added, “The current environment indicates that the likelihood that the US economy will be able to avoid a recession is, in fact, very limited.”
The International Monetary Fund official warned that a “small shock” could push the US economy into recession.
In its latest update on the outlook for the global economy, the International Monetary Fund cut its growth forecast for the United States to 2.3% this year, 1.4 percentage points lower than its April forecast.
The US economy is expected to slow further next year, with a growth rate of just 1.0 percent.
The US central bank is raising interest rates aggressively to curb hyperinflation, which is slowing economic activity.
