French media reported today, Sunday, that the government imposed water restrictions in 88 out of 96 provinces on the mainland of the country, due to the continuing high temperatures and drought.
The BFM channel said the water shortage affected mostly the Baie de la Loire and Poitou-Charentes regions in the west of the country.
She added that the reasons behind this shortage are the abnormally dry and hot weather over the past few weeks and the lack of rain in winter.
According to the channel, residents of 88 counties received warnings of a dangerous drought and orders to limit water use, in particular, citizens are prohibited from watering the garden during the day.
The World Meteorological Organization said on Tuesday that the abnormally high air temperature in European countries will continue until at least the middle of next week.
The current heat wave has caused confusion in southern and western Europe, causing the burning of tens of thousands of acres, the death of at least hundreds, in addition to partial disruption of transportation and the destruction of some buildings.
