Manchester United reached an agreement with Ajax today, Sunday, to obtain the services of Argentine international defender Lisandro Martinez, making it the third signing of the English club during the summer transfers.
Ajax confirmed that United would pay 57 million euros ($57 million – 48 million pounds) plus an additional 10 million euros in performance-related bonuses, according to Agence France-Presse.
“Manchester United is pleased to announce that the club has reached an agreement with Ajax regarding the transfer of Argentine international defender Lisandro Martinez,” United said in a statement.
He indicated that the player is undergoing a medical examination, and his special conditions and visa requirements for entering the United Kingdom are being terminated. Martinez is set to meet his former coach Eric ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag has already added midfielder Christian Eriksen and left-back Terrell Malacia to the team that finished sixth in the Premier League last year.
Martinez moved to Ajax from Defensa e Justicia in his home country, won two Eredivisie titles and helped the Dutch champions reach the last 16 of the Champions League last season.
