550 women in the US have filed lawsuits against Uber for sexual assault.
The British Broadcasting Corporation “BBC” reported that the female Uber riders who filed the lawsuits allege that they have been sexually assaulted.
She explained that these attacks included “kidnapping, sexual assault, sexual abuse, rape, detention, harassment, harassment, or assault by Uber drivers.”
The complaints were filed on Wednesday with the Supreme Court in San Francisco, California.
A spokesperson for Uber said sexual assault is a horrific crime, stressing that the company takes every complaint seriously.
He explained that the company has developed new safety features and measures to protect passengers, and that it has become more transparent with regard to serious accidents.
He noted that he could not comment on issues currently in dispute, but that the company continued to make safety issues its focus.
The lawsuit, filed by the law firm Slater Schulman, notes that allegations of sexual assault occurred in a number of US states.
Last month, Uber published its second safety report in the United States.
The report mentioned 998 sexual assault incidents, including 141 rape incidents in 2020.
