Comedian Alan Carr has reassured fans after he collapsed on stage during a show in Glasgow.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race UK judge was performing at the King’s Theatre last Sunday (10 July) when he felt a “shooting pain” in his leg after he had seemingly torn a muscle.
“I’ve been performing up in Glasgow and there’s a bit in my routine where I pretend to be Jason Statham and I high-kicked, and then I got the worst cramp ever,” Carr explained in an Instagram video posted on Monday (12 July).
“Oh my god! It was shooting pains and I was rolling around on the floor, and people thought it was part of the act.”
He explained that his “lovely stage manager” handed him a crutch from behind the curtains to help him stand and finish the show.
“I’m fine… I just felt silly rolling around the floor,” Carr added. “I’ve never felt pain like it, but I will soldier on as I always do.”
Carr has received the support of fans and celebrity friends, including Love Actually star Martine McCutcheon who wrote: “Oh bless you. What a trooper! Rest up and take care of yourself [though] please!”
“You are the best,” Dame Kelly Holmes wrote, while I’m a Celebrity’s Vicky Pattinson said: “I love you man”.
In June, Carr opened up on having had a bit of a “rubbish” year following the split from his husband Paul Drayton, announced in January. The pair broke up after three years of marriage and 13 years together.
“I’ve got to sort out that work/life balance,” he said last month. “Next year, you’ll probably see a bit less of Alan. I’m going to sort myself out. I think I’m ready for it.”
