Pilgrims flock to Arafat to perform the greatest pillar of Hajj

162

With the sunrise, about a million pilgrims flocked to Mount Arafat, on Friday, to perform the greatest pillar of the pilgrimage, after two years in which the Covid-19 pandemic greatly restricted the number of pilgrims.

Many pilgrims were busy praying, asking forgiveness and praying, and they also expressed their overwhelming happiness to be able to perform the obligatory prayer this year, after the imposition of strict restrictions due to the Corona pandemic.

Mount Arafat is located more than 20 kilometers to the east of Mecca, which is a flat plain and 10 kilometers from the Shaar of Mina, where pilgrims will go to stone the Jamarat on the first day of Eid al-Adha.

Arafat is the only one of the holy sites that lies outside the boundaries of the Great Mosque of Mecca.

Once they reached Arafat, the pilgrims sat down, some prayed, others shed tears and some took selfies to document these important moments in their lives.
Some pilgrims headed to the Namira Mosque to secure places for them to listen to Arafat’s sermon, which will be delivered by Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Hani Jokhdar, told the Saudi Press Agency “SPA” that the follow-up of epidemic and infectious diseases is carried out with a careful monitoring system to monitor the spread of these diseases and anticipate any early health warning of events that require rapid intervention and support.

This year’s Hajj is for the age group less than 65 years, with the requirement to complete immunization with basic doses of Covid-19 vaccines approved by the Saudi Ministry of Health.

After spending the day in sprawling camps in Upper Arafat, the pilgrims go at sunset to Muzdalifah to collect the Jamarat and then head to Mina to stone them on Saturday, the first day of Eid al-Adha.
