Away from football, the legend of the game, Cristiano Ronaldo, faces accusations of laziness in developing a building he bought in Manchester, and leaving it in poor condition, which could affect investment in the historical area in which it is located.

And the newspaper, “Mail on Sunday”, criticized the city council, in which Ronaldo plays for his most famous team, Manchester United, for not starting any maintenance work on an 11-storey building, which he intends to convert into a luxury hotel as part of a project worth 27 million pounds.

Local officials believe the poor condition of the 1907 building will distract other companies from investing in the area.

The 37-year-old Portuguese star bought the property in 2020, a year before his return to Manchester United from Juventus, with the aim of converting it into a hotel.
The building was in poor condition for 15 years, but many expected it to develop after 2020 when it joined Ronaldo’s property.

The hotel was scheduled to open in 2023, amid expectations that it would employ more than 900 people, knowing that it would consist of 151 rooms.

“Manchester City Council expects the building to remain in poor condition for a longer period of time,” says a report seen by the Mail on Sunday. “It will further deteriorate, preventing public benefits from being redeveloped.”

This “will give a bad impression on the region, and could undermine investment opportunities there,” the report added.

Sources close to Ronaldo say that he feels “closeness” with the city of Manchester, and wants to put it on the world tourism map by opening a hotel, which will be part of a chain of hotels he owns in other European cities.
