The legal team of the star Amber Heard has filed an appeal against the ruling against her in the “defamation” lawsuit that star Johnny Depp had filed against his ex-wife, Heard.
Heard and Johnny Depp’s legal teams met in a Fairfax, Virginia courtroom with Judge Benny Azcaret, and instead of finalizing a settlement between the two parties, Heard’s lead attorney, Elaine Bridehoft, sought to establish a briefing schedule and more for her client’s proposed appeal.
Virginia District Court Judge Penny Azcaret told attorney Eileen Bridehoft that if she wanted to appeal the verdict of the seven-person jury, the attorney would have to file motions with the court. Percentage of annual interest on any appeal to proceed formally.
Eileen Breedhoft explained that Heard will appeal the ruling, and cannot pay the money to Depp, and added that she has a right and will never give up.
The jury had found both Amber Heard and Depp liable for defamation in lawsuits against each other, and awarded Depp $10 million in damages and $5 million in punitive damages. The agency awarded Amber Heard $2 million in damages and non-punitive damages.
