The destroyer was hit in October 1944 in a battle off the island of Samar in the Philippine Sea, by Japanese fire, and settled at a depth of 22,600 feet under the surface of the water.

Thanks to the discovery of the wreck of the destroyer, American billionaire and adventurer Victor Veskovo, who was able, thanks to a deep-diving submarine, to reach the ship, which was largely intact, according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”.
According to the British newspaper, 224 men were on board the destroyer, 89 of whom died when it sank, while the rest survived thanks to the lifeboats.

Commenting on the discovery of the wreck, Veskovo said: “It took 6 dives to find it. It is an extraordinary honor to locate the missing ship and in doing so give us the opportunity to retell its incredible story of heroism and duty.”

Veskovo added: “The iron does not lie, and the shipwreck is the last witness to the battles fought by the marines with honor and sacrifice.”

The video showed the structure of the destroyer, the weapons mounted on it, and torpedoes, in addition to traces of the Japanese missiles it had received.
