“The phone is in my right hand, and the broom is in my left to attend lectures at the university.” With these words, Jordanian janitor Muhammad Al-Asmar described the realization of his dream of obtaining a bachelor’s degree specializing in accounting.
Al-Asmar suffers from financial hardship, with an income of no more than $550, from which a study loan of $225 is deducted, and another amount for the rent of his modest house; To fill the rest of his family’s needs.
Al-Asmar said, in his interview with “Sky News Arabia”, that his working hours start from two thirty in the afternoon until ten thirty in the evening; Then he begins his home study in preparation for a school day with a few hours of sleep.
Al-Asmar did not hide his daily frustration with the increase in criticism at times and the heavy duties that he overcame with the fuel of diligence and perseverance.
Al-Asmar is waiting to secure the rest of the financial payments to his university, to start completing postgraduate studies “Master’s and PhD”, with his family’s inability to help him due to their economic conditions.
He concluded by saying: “I invite everyone to persevere and raise the ceiling of ambition, whatever the circumstances, and to make the will and urgent desire the basis for achieving the goal.”
It is noteworthy that Jordanians published hundreds of publications and comments supporting Al-Asmar’s ambition, calling on young people to take the initiative, no matter how dire the circumstances.
