WhatsApp has until July to comply with EU consumer law

The European Commission has given a deadline to implement the instant messaging “WhatsApp” until next month, in order to comply with the European Union Consumer Law.
And she said in a statement, last Wednesday, that “WhatsApp” has until July to prove that the privacy policy update it submitted in January is in compliance with consumer law in the European Union, according to the “TechCrunch” website.
European regulators added that WhatsApp’s response in March did not convince them, prompting them to send a second letter to it last Wednesday.
The European Consumer Organization and the European Network of Consumer Powers explained that WhatsApp did not explain the privacy changes it made in clear and understandable language, which is a violation of consumer law in the European Union, according to its considerations.
“WhatsApp must ensure that users understand what they are agreeing to and how their personal data is used for commercial purposes, in particular to provide services to business partners,” the commission’s chief justice, Didier Reynders, stressed in a statement.
The Consumer Protection Cooperation Network, made up of national consumer watchdogs, and backed by the EU executive, sent a letter to WhatsApp in January asking for clarifications regarding the US messaging app’s updated privacy policy.
