The UAE announced, this evening, Sunday, that it had recorded 3 new cases of monkeypox.
The UAE Ministry of Health said that the cases were discovered in accordance with the policy of early investigation of the disease.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the ministry recommended community members to follow safety and infection prevention measures.
First discovered in lab monkeys in the late 1950s, the disease is usually mild but can cause severe illness in some cases that can kill up to 10 percent of people who become infected. The milder strain that causes the current outbreak kills 1 in 100 people.
The incubation period for monkeypox is 21 days, which means that it can take up to three weeks for symptoms to appear. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and fatigue.
