George Clooney spotted filming new movie featuring the star on banks of River Thames

Hollywood megastar George Clooney was spotted today filming scenes for his new film The Boys in the Boat, on the shores of the River Thames. The actor is turning his hands to directing and one of the actors in his charge is an EastEnders star you are more used to seeing in Walford.

The film set had been put together at the Molesey Boat Club and several members of the cast have been seen in rowing attire while being guided by Clooney. The new film is based on the true story of the University of Washington’s 1936 eight-oar boat crew and their bid for gold at the Olympics held that year in Berlin, then the capital of Nazi Germany.

The boat club looked a bit different to usual though with a Nazi flag draped alongside the US flag on the front of the clubhouse. Clooney could be seen giving direction and chatting to crew as he stole most of the attention of amazed onlookers.

The movie is based on a book by the same name by Daniel James Brown and features several British stars. One of these is Callum Turner, star of BBC’s The Capture, who plays the lead in Clooney’s new film.

The other will be very familiar to EastEnders fans though. Sam Strike, 28, played Johnny Carter for 3 years on the Albert Square soap, last appearing in the programme earlier this year.
