Protesters storm the Iranian movie “Holy Spider” in Cannes

A group of feminist protesters staged a dramatic scene at the Cannes Film Festival before the screening of the movie Holy Spider, carrying exhaust fumes and a banner with the names of 129 women murdered because of gender bias.

Nearly a dozen formally dressed women gathered on the famous staircase in Cannes carrying a petition for a list of 129 women killed in France since the last Cannes festival.

Security appeared unfazed by the event, allowing female protesters to be filmed and photographed. An insider close to the production said the protest was not a coordinated ploy to promote Iranian director Ali Abbasi’s “Holy Spider”, which is about a journalist traveling to the Iranian holy city of Mashhad to investigate the case of a women killer. .
