Today, Saturday, the United States of America renewed its demand for a “comprehensive and transparent” investigation into the killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot in the head while carrying out her work in Jenin, in the northern West Bank, hours after Congress witnessed a movement in this regard.
“The US State Department has returned and said that it wants a full, transparent and confidential investigation to discuss the circumstances of the killing of the Palestinian journalist,” the official Israeli channel, Kan, said on Saturday evening.
She added that the US State Department’s statement comes hours after a public official letter sent by 57 members of Congress to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation “FBI”, requesting an investigation into her murder.
As the members of Congress said in their letter, “As an American, (Shireen) Abu Aqeleh was entitled to the full protection afforded to American citizens living abroad,” in other words, he examined whether the circumstances of her murder violated US law.
For his part, Mike Herzog, the Israeli ambassador to Washington, responded to members of Congress by saying: “You should demand that the Palestinian Authority hand over the bullet (that killed Shirin) to Israel – it is (the authority) that is delaying the investigation.”

On May 11, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the killing of reporter and journalist, Sherine Abu Aqleh (51 years), by Israeli army bullets during their storming of Jenin refugee camp.
For its part, the Palestinian presidency condemned the murder of Al-Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Aqleh, by the Israeli army, and held the Israeli government fully responsible for this heinous crime.
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said, “The Palestinian Authority rejects an offer to conduct a joint investigation into the killing of Palestinian journalist Abu Akleh.
