“The splitting of the moon” raises controversy on the communication sites, and NASA resolves it

During the past hours, social networking sites witnessed widespread controversy, with the circulation of a set of images, some say, of the process of “splitting the moon” after the appearance of some cracks on its surface.
The promoters of these images considered that they support the miracle mentioned in the Holy Qur’an regarding the splitting of the moon for the Prophet Muhammad more than 1,400 years ago.
But by checking the truth of the circulating images, it turns out that they were published on the website of the US space agency “NASA” on August 19, 2010, and show the surface of the moon through the lens of the “Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter”, which was launched from Earth on June 19, 2009 and entered the moon’s orbit after four days.

The images show a rupture in the lunar crust due to the shrinkage of its mass with the coldness of its interior, but it does not prove a rupture from a scientific point of view, according to NASA.
Commenting on such controversy that arose about a decade ago, Brad Bailey, a NASA scientist, wrote on the agency’s website: “My recommendation is not to believe everything you read on the Internet. There is no current scientific evidence to suggest that the moon has split into two or more parts.” “.
Commenting on this issue, Al-Ahram Gate website published previous statements by Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb when he was the Mufti of Egypt, in which he said that the incident of the splitting of the moon “is one of the sensory miracles and paranormal customs that appeared at the hands of the Messenger of God, our Master Muhammad, peace be upon him, in support of his call and ratification.” because of his message and that he was sent from God Almighty.”
