Haniyeh added, “We offer our condolences to you, and we offer our condolences to ourselves, the Al Jazeera network and the martyr’s family on the martyrdom of the righteous daughter, Sherine Abu Aqleh, who became the martyr, the witness in her life and her martyrdom, to the most terrible occupation in contemporary history.”
He continued, “Shirin will remain engraved in the memory of a generation that will continue the journey until the occupier is defeated from the land of Palestine.”
Haniyeh stressed that “the guardians of the truth from the media and journalists of Palestine will continue the path and the path that Sherine and those who preceded her from the martyrs of the Palestinian press movement, and all the free journalists who are dedicated to their work as a national duty and a victory for the truth, stressing that our voice is stronger than your bullets.”
And the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced, earlier this morning, the killing of reporter and journalist, Sherine Abu Aqleh, by the Israeli army, while storming the Jenin refugee camp.
The ministry stated that the Qatari journalist and correspondent for the “Al-Jazeera” channel, Sherine Abu Aqleh, was hit by a direct bullet in the head, killing her instantly, while covering the events of the storming of Jenin camp by the Israeli forces.
The ministry indicated that the journalist Ali Al-Samoudi, the correspondent of Al-Quds newspaper, was hit by a live bullet in the back, indicating that his condition is stable.
For its part, the Palestinian presidency condemned the murder of Al-Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh by the Israeli army.
According to the Palestinian News Agency, the Palestinian presidency held the Israeli government fully responsible for this heinous crime, stressing that it is part of a daily policy pursued by Israel against the Palestinian people, their land and their holy sites.
Earlier today, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid described the news of the killing of Palestinian journalist Shirin Abu Akleh as “sad.”
“We call on the Palestinians to present a joint satisfactory investigation after the unfortunate killing of journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh,” Lapid said, on his Twitter account, stressing the need to protect journalists on the battlefields and reach the truth.
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett also said, “The Palestinian Authority has rejected, for the moment, an offer to conduct a joint investigation into the killing of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
Bennett added, in a statement, that “the president of the Palestinian Authority is making baseless accusations against Israel,” explaining that “according to the data in our possession, there is not a small possibility that Palestinian gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, and they caused the unfortunate death of the journalist.”
