Fragments of huge archaeological giant statues found in Sardinia dating back to the ninth century BC

The Italian Ministry of Culture announced the discovery of fragments of statues of “giants of Mount Brama” carved from limestone on the island of Sardinia, dating back to the eighth and ninth centuries BC.

The ministry indicated that the parts that were found are for the statues of two wrestlers because of the curved shield that covers their bodies.

She added that they resemble two other statues that were discovered a few meters away in 2014 and are currently displayed in a museum.

Culture Minister Dario Franceschini said it was an “extraordinary discovery that will be followed by other discoveries”.

These relics were discovered a few days after the resumption of the excavation campaign in the “Brama Mountains” cemetery in the village of Cabras, where statues about 2.5 meters high were first found in 1974.

These ancient carvings belong to the Nuragic civilization that has existed in Sardinia for several centuries.
