A “Nazi” marriage in Mexico ignites a storm of controversy

A Mexican couple chose to celebrate their “Nazi-flavored” wedding in honor of Adolf Hitler on the same day as his wedding anniversary with his wife Eva Braun, on April 29.

The Mexican groom, Fernando, wore a full Nazi military uniform, and a hat similar to Hitler’s military hat, and cut the wedding cake decorated with the Nazi emblem, with his wife Josephina.

Pictures of Fernando and Josefina spread on social media, and were sharply attacked and criticized by activists on the Internet, due to the couple’s celebration of Nazism, which led the world to World War II and caused the deaths of millions.

In addition to Fernando, his close friends also wore military uniforms and saluted him in the Nazi manner after he left the church where the wedding ceremony was held.

Fernando used a German Volkswagen used by the German army at the time, and decorated it with the Nazi swastika emblem.

Fernando, 38, was consistent as he made clear his admiration for Hitler, in an interview with the newspaper “Millieno” after the wedding.

He said, “I know that for many people, Hitler is a person who carried out genocide, a symbol of racism and violence…but some make judgments without obtaining information or by believing the victors.”

“His people loved him,” added Fernando, who has been following the National Socialist movement since adolescence.

The Mexican National Council for the Prevention of Discrimination criticized the couple for not respecting people’s feelings, noting that “it is necessary to remember the horrific events that took place on European soil during the Holocaust, a crime unparalleled in human history.”
