A 6-year-old boy has died after drinking a glass of Monster Energy, according to media reports.
On April 16, the British newspaper “The Sun” said that the child, Francisco Cervantes, visited his grandmother’s house in the Mexican city of Matamoros, adding that he was thirsty, so he saw a cup on the table full of “Monster Energy”, and then drank it completely.
The newspaper added that the boy immediately felt “uncomfortable”, which prompted his family to urgently transfer him to the local Alfredo Pomarego Hospital.
After he was admitted to the hospital, doctors said he was suffering from poisoning. Later, the boy suffered brain death.
Francisco spent 6 days in the hospital in a coma, as his mother, Jessica, refused to allow doctors to disconnect him from the ventilator.
Soon, Jessica announced her son’s death, saying: “Unfortunately, my son couldn’t stand it. I thank all those who came to support us.”
Many health experts advise children not to consume energy drinks, which are often high in caffeine and sugar.
