One of the biggest rough rubies in the world has landed in the UAE.
The “Burj Alhamal” or “Aries” is an 8,400 carat, 2.8 kg ruby mined from the village of Winza in central Tanzania, that is set to be unveiled by Hollywood actor Tamer Hassan on April 15 to gem enthusiasts at Dubai’s Waldorf Astoria Financial Centre.
SJ Gold and Diamond, a gems and mineral asset management firm in Dubai that specializes in providing investment possibilities for rare precious stones, is launching the rare gem as part of its new “Callisto Collection” made up of cut and uncut diamonds and rough rubies worth millions of dollars.
“This is the first time we are introducing our crown jewel of the collection. Unveiling this one-of-a-kind stone to the public for bidding, is a clear continuation of our dedication to showcasing the best of the best in the UAE,” said Patrick Pilati, managing director of SJ Gold and Diamond.
Following its first public appearance at the April 15 event, the ruby will later be auctioned off in a UAE market post-Ramadan, where it is estimated to sell for a whopping $120 million.
