Will Smith banned from Oscars for 10 years after slapping Chris Rock

Today, Friday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences issued a decision banning American actor Will Smith from attending the Oscars for 10 years.
The decision came less than two weeks after Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Work at the 2022 Academy Awards.
“The 94th Academy Awards are intended to become a celebration of the many individuals in our community who have done an amazing job in the past year, yet those moments have been overshadowed by the behavior of Unacceptable and harmful from Will Smith on stage.”
And the statement continued, “During the television broadcast, we did not deal with the situation adequately, for this we are sorry, and this was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and the academy family around the world, and we failed and were not ready for the unprecedented.”
The Academy added, “The Board of Governors held a meeting today to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s actions at the Academy Awards, and other than accepting his resignation from the Academy, the Board of Directors has decided not to allow him to attend any Academy events or programs for a period of 10 years, effective April 8th. / April 2022, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards Ceremony.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences concluded its statement by saying, “We want to express our deepest gratitude to actor Chris Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances, and we would like to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise during the telecast, and it is this action we are taking today. “Responding to Will Smith’s behavior is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of performers and guests and restoring confidence in the Academy.”

Will Smith had submitted his resignation from the Academy of Image and Motion Arts and Sciences on April 1, as an expression of his admission that he had made a mistake by slapping Chris Rock in front of millions of viewers around the world, and he had also made an official apology to the comedian through his accounts on social networking sites.
The Academy’s board of directors had previously condemned Smith’s behavior at the Oscars, and noted at the time that it had already begun a “formal review of the incident.”
