Former US President Donald Trump is suing Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party leadership for trying to influence the outcome of the 2016 election by publishing false information about his collusion with Russia.
“In the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton and her followers perpetrated an unimaginable, mind-shaking conspiracy that defies the democratic foundations of the nation,” Trump said in a statement.
“By collective action, the defendants maliciously conspired to advance the false narrative that their Republican leader and opponent, Donald Trump, was conspiring with a hostile foreign power.”
Trump said the defendants’ sole purpose was to “discredit him” and undermine his chances in the election.
The lawsuit alleges that Clinton and the Democratic National Committee fabricated a link between the Trump campaign and Russia, resulting in a “baseless federal investigation” and “media frenzy.”
The lawsuit was filed against Clinton, the Democratic National Assembly, other governing bodies and party staff in the US Federal Court for the Eastern District of Florida.
