The author of “The Alchemist”: the crisis in Ukraine is used to justify hatred of Russians

World-renowned Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho has criticized the use of the situation in Ukraine to stoke hatred against the Russian people. “The Ukrainian crisis provides an easy justification for Russophobia,” Coelho wrote on Twitter.

In another tweet, Coelho wrote: “I’ve been to Lvov, Kiev, Odessa, Yalta and Chernobyl in Ukraine, 10,000 km by train, from Moscow to Vladivostok in Russia… Yes, there is war, but don’t blame the common people.”

Paulo Coelho is a world-renowned Brazilian writer and poet. He is the author of more than 20 books, including the novel “The Alchemist”, which has become one of the best-selling books in Russia, and the total number of copies of his books worldwide exceeds 300 million.
