The European Union: Russia is implementing a war plan in Ukraine similar to the one in Syria and Libya
EU Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said that Russia is implementing a war plan in Ukraine that is “similar” to that used in Syria and Libya.
Amsterdam – Sputnik. Borrell said, in statements today, Thursday, that “Russia is implementing a war plan in Ukraine that is the same as in Syria and Libya.”
“We are mobilizing our efforts through diplomacy and sanctions to put pressure on Russia and stop the war,” the EU foreign affairs commissioner added.
In this context, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the leaders of the European Union countries will communicate again with Russian President Vladimir Putin in order to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine.
“We have to prepare a plan for economic resilience and the coming days will enable us to assess the points directly or indirectly affected by the war (in Ukraine), and we need a European investment strategy,” Macron added.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, February 24, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine after the Donetsk and Luhansk republics requested help to defend themselves from the intense attacks of Ukrainian forces.
The operation, as President Vladimir Putin has made clear, aims to stop the militarization of Ukraine, confront the neo-Nazis, and bring to justice all those responsible for the bloody crimes against civilians in Donbass.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the operation was targeting Ukraine’s military infrastructure and that civilians were not in danger. Moscow says it does not plan to occupy Ukraine, but rather to disarm Kyiv and stop its threats.
At the same time, the West responded to the Russian operation by imposing a large package of sanctions with the aim of undermining Moscow’s will and isolating it from the world, as it claims, but Russia confirmed that it was well prepared for such actions that it expected to happen regardless of the situation regarding Ukraine.
