The eruption of a volcano in Indonesia .. the evacuation of hundreds and ash covering villages

Indonesia’s disaster agency said on Thursday that the Merapi volcano erupted overnight, spewing lava and ash and prompting more than 250 residents in the surrounding area to flee.

The Indonesian Geological Agency said on Twitter that the Merapi volcano spewed hot clouds, a mixture of ash and volcanic material, which flowed five kilometers long on its sides between midnight and 2 am local time today.

The disaster agency indicated that 253 residents in the area around the volcano in Yogyakarta province left their homes while some villages were covered with ash, and there were no reports of injuries or deaths so far.
Merapi is one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes and was already on the second-highest disaster warning level.

The last violent eruption of this volcano was in 2010 and killed more than 350, according to “Reuters”.
