Omar Al-Atwi… the story of the Saudi boy chosen by a British director for the movie “Desert Warrior”

The director of the movie “Desert Warrior”, Robert Wyatt, settled on a 15-year-old Saudi child to participate in his starring, which deals with the battle of “Dhi Qar”, which took place on the land of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 1,400 years ago.
Al-Atwi was nominated to embody in the events of the film the character, Iyas bin Qabisa Al-Taei, who is one of the main faces of the war, and served as a military commander.
Omar Al-Atwi said in statements to the Saudi “Al-Arabiya” channel, that the film is his first experience in the field of acting, and that the director of the work chose him after he noticed him dealing with camels on the filming site in the Tabuk desert, a profession that he used to practice in the field of attack with his father. Since he was 7 years old.

Al-Atwi confirmed that he was initially reluctant to participate in the film, but he found it special, agreed and began filming, which lasted for 4 months, but stressed that this did not affect his study times and exam periods at school.
He added that he had read a lot about the character of Iyas Al-Taie, who he embodies in the events of the film, and he had read a lot about it in order to be able to master it on the silver screen.
Omar Al-Atwi expressed his wish to become an actor in the future, and to break into the field of acting in cinema.
Filming of the movie “Desert Warrior” began in November 2021, between the cities of Tabuk and Neom in Saudi Arabia, and starring British actors, Ben Kingsley and Anthony Mackie, and directed by Robert Wyatt, director of the science fiction movie “Rise of the planet of the Apes, and produced by the Saudi MBC Group.
