Russia’s Gazprom signs long-term gas deal with China

Russia’s “Gazprom” signed today a long-term contract with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) for the supply of 10 billion cubic meters of gas.
The Russian company “Gazprom” indicated that the supply of natural gas quantities will be via the “Far East” route.

The signing came during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Beijing to participate in the opening of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Gazprom said in a statement that “the signing of the contract is an important step in the path of strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and China in the gas sector, and after the (Far East) project reaches its full capacity, the volume of Russian gas supplies via pipelines to China will increase by 10 billion meters. cubic meters, to 48 billion cubic meters per year.

The head of the Russian company, Alexei Miller, commented on the agreement, saying that “the signing of a new contract for the supply of Russian gas to China indicates the highest level of mutual trust and partnership between Russia and China.”

Also, the Russian energy company “Rosneft” signed today an agreement with the Chinese company “CNPC” to supply 100 million tons of oil to China via Kazakhstan over a period of 10 years.

The Russian president arrived in Beijing today to participate in the opening of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Earlier, Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov indicated that Russia and China plan to sign a wide range of agreements during Putin’s visit to Beijing. The assistant to the Russian President added that during the visit a wide package of documents, numbering more than 15 agreements, will be adopted.
