A Russian nutrition expert has warned against eating canned foods because they may contain harmful substances for the body, in addition to their role in increasing the risk of cancer.
Nutritionist Elena Solomatina said in an interview with “Sputnik” that eating this type of food may contribute to raising blood pressure and developing cancer.
She attributed the reason for this to the presence of sodium benzoate, which is essential in the composition of these foods, explaining that if the body receives this substance in excessive quantities, there will be a risk of developing malignant tumors.
She pointed out that “there are studies that have shown a correlation between the incidence of tumors and the amount of benzoate that is eaten. It is important to remember the amount of canned foods that are eaten.”

The expert added that home-made canned foods contain harmless additives, but they should be handled with caution. And she warned that the abuse of such products can lead to increased pressure, and high blood pressure. The reason for this is salt. “There is a lot of salt in canned foods, but few people think about it and limit themselves to eating a small piece of cucumber or tomato when they open the can.”
Excessive salt intake leads to fluid retention in the body, which means that it can lead to increased pressure in people who are prone to it, thus exposing them to high blood pressure problems.
