Putin signs a presidential decree on the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lev Tolstoy

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday signed a presidential decree on celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian writer Lev Tolstoy.
The decree was published on the official portal for legal information.
The decree indicated that a decision to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Lev Tolstoy’s birth was taken taking into account the outstanding role played by the Russian writer Lev Tolstoy in the development of world culture and civilization.

The decree reads: “He approved a proposal by the Government of Russia to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lev Tolstoy in 2028.”

The decree entrusted the Russian government with forming an organizing committee for the preparation and holding of festive events, as well as setting and approving a plan for those events. The Russian President recommended that the local authorities and the self-governing bodies take part in the preparations for the Jubilee Remembrance.

It is worth noting that Lev Tolstoy was born in 1828 in the town of Yasnaya Polyana, in a family of nobles, and was famous for writing “Sevastopol Stories”, “Novels of “War and Peace”, “Anna Karenina”, “The Living Corpse” and others. The great writer died in 1910 and was buried in the town of Yasnaya Polyana” in the Tula region, 200 km from Moscow.
