The “Hermitage” cat is included in the list of the flags of Russia

The famous American board game Cultures of the world has included the cats of the Hermitage Museum in Petersburg on the list of Russian flags of the world.

This was reported by the museum’s press office on its page on the Russian social network VK.
The blog said: “The Hermitage cats are popular all over the world, and films are shot in their subject matter, books are published and newspaper articles are published. We recently learned that the American board game has launched a special card for Russia that includes interesting facts about geography, history and culture. We liked the second line in The card is about 74 cats protecting art and antiques from mice.They live in the museum’s basement and are cared for by a veterinarian and a private official.

It is reported that the history of the Hermitage’s cat service dates back to the 18th century when the Empress, Elizaveta Petrovna, ordered the cats to be brought from Kazan to Petersburg to hunt mice.

The Hermitage’s 60 cats and cats have recently become a well-known landmark of Petersburg. It has been engraved on souvenirs and book covers. Its name was given to a special tourist trail. In 2015, the British media described the “Hermitage” cats as one of the most unusual flags in the world.
